چکیده

• Multi-Element Analysis Introduction Laser ablation inductively coupled plasma-mass spectrometry (LA-ICP-MS) has developed over recent years to become a sophisticated tool for the multielemental and isotope ratio analysis of solid samples. Besides a true multi-elemental capability, independent of matrix, the major requirements for most geological laser applications in ICP-MS are the highest sensitivity and scan speed. Such demanding analytical pre-requisites often require the most sophisticated instrumentation, such as Thermo Electron’s Finnigan ELEMENT 2. This Application Report describes a variety of LAICP-MS applications from different scientists to provide a brief summary of the technique in their particular fields of interest. The contributions included are: • Pb geochronology in zircons (M. Tiepolo et al.) • Re and Os concentration measurements in molybdenite (I. Rodushkin et al.) • High mass resolution for non-matrix dependent laser ablation analysis, the isotopic analysis of Pleistocene human remains and the multi-element analysis of fluid inclusions by LA-ICP-MS, (Ch. Latkoczy et al.).

Determination of phosphorus and metals in human brain proteins after isolation by gel electrophoresis by laser ablation inductively coupled plasma source mass spectrometry

Phosphorus, sulfur, silicon and metal concentrations (Al, Cu and Zn) were determined in human brain proteins by laser ablation inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (LA-ICP-MS) after separation of protein mixtures by two dimensional (2-D) gel electrophoresis. The analysis of phosphorus, silicon and metals in single protein spots in the gel was performed with an optimized microanalytical ...

The influence of laser pulse duration and energy on ICP-MS signal intensity, elemental fractionation, and particle size distribution in NIR fs-LA-ICP-MS.

Laser parameters, typically wavelength, pulse width, irradiance, repetition rate, and pulse energy, are critical parameters which influence the laser ablation process and thereby influence the LA-ICP-MS signal. In recent times, femtosecond laser ablation has gained popularity owing to the reduction in fractionation related issues and improved analytical performance which can provide matrix-inde...

Imaging of metals and metal-containing species in biological tissues and on gels by laser ablation inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (LA-ICP-MS): A new analytical strategy for applications in life sciences*

Laser ablation inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (LA-ICP-MS) has become established as a very efficient and sensitive trace, ultratrace, and surface analytical technique in the life sciences. We have developed a new analytical imaging technique using LA-ICP-MS to study element distribution in biological tissues. Nowadays, imaging LA-ICPMS using double-focusing sector field (LA-ICP-SF...

New techniques for sampling larval and juvenile fish otoliths for trace-element analysis with laser-ablation sector-field inductively-coupled- plasma mass spectrometry (SF-ICP-MS)

Trace-element signatures in otolith-growth bands provide a powerful tool for fish biologists to track fish movements, discriminate fish populations, and monitor aquatic environments. The ability to read these trace-element signatures has rested on the development of sophistical instruments used by analytic chemists. Most recently, the preferred instrument has been inductively-coupled-plasma mas...

Laser ablation inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (LA-ICP-MS): comparison of different internal standardization methods using laser-induced plasma (LIP) emission and LA-ICP-MS signals.

The source of signal variations that governs the analytical performance of laser ablation inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (LA-ICP-MS) was investigated in this study. In order to specify the source of signal variations of LA-ICP-MS, laser-induced plasma (LIP) Fe emission, LA-ICP-MS Fe+ and LA-ICP-MS Ni+ signals were used as internal standards for the determination of trace elements ...
